I recognize that even being able to afford going to the dentist, having dental coverage, and living within walking distance of an amazing full service facility is a huuuuuuuuuge privilege. A large part of the Black population CAN’T prioritize dental health. (Remind me to get at the CDC about these low key victim blaming “findings”…) The access just isn’t there, the finances aren’t there, employers that will give you a full 40 instead of a bullshit 25 hours a week so they don’t have to offer you insurance JUST ISN’T THERE. And that’s a damn shame on our government.
Having a simple cleaning is no problem for most people but I am scared shitless of the dentist. I had SO much anxiety leading up to this appointment. I couldn’t sleep last night. The last time I went to the dentist, it resulted in me getting root canal. No time to mentally prep either! NOT FUN 😭 However I did it! I JUST had a cleaning AND scheduled an extraction to finally have my wisdom teeth taken out in a few weeks AND my next cleaning is all lined up.
I told you this self-care challenge wouldn’t be all face masks and nail polish…
